Winter Garden

The Winter Garden is a must for any visit. Home to over 150 tropical plant species from around the world, it is a peaceful escape with views overlooking the park.

Selection of flowers and plants in the winter garden

It was originally added as an extension to Preston Hall by the Ropner family and it is a stunning example of Victorian architecture with original features including the Blenheim flooring and unique heating system.

The Victorians were pioneers in the global gardening trade, introducing new plant species to England. In their time, a pineapple was considered a symbol of wealth - so rare that it would be displayed at high-society gatherings, rather than eaten. It would have cost around £5000 in today's money!

Come and explore the vibrant world of tropical plants here at Preston Park Museum.
