We care for our objects so they can be enjoyed by you today and also by future generations.
Whether in storage, on display or being handled, our Collections Team follow best practice to keep objects safe and accessible.
This involves a wide range of activities including:
- providing training for staff and volunteers in handling historic objects
- ensuring the right environmental conditions are maintained in the stores
- controlling light to prevent fading
- controlling temperature and humidity to prevent decay
- good housekeeping to prevent pests such as moths and silverfish from damaging the collections
