Birds, Birds, Birds - A pop‑up cardboard event for families

Currently there are no instances scheduled for this event

This Easter, the Pop-up Cardboard Museum brings Birds Birds Birds! to Preston Park — a creative, hands-on family programme all about imagination, memories and caring for the natural world.

Families can get hands-on with two fun, colourful cardboard craft activities:

Build a giant community peacock ( 7 to 10 April)

Join artist Hollie Notman to design and make bold, bright peacock feathers. Use cardboard, colour and pattern to create your own feather and add it to an ever-growing peacock made by all our visitors. Every feather helps the peacock grow bigger, brighter and more spectacular!

Create your own cardboard birds (13 to 16 April)

With illustrator Kat Lynas, families can help fill the space with a whole flock of cardboard birds.
Make a bird you love, one you remember seeing in the park, or a bird you want to protect. Add it to the collaborative installation and watch the flock grow each day.

All activities are simple, drop-in and designed for children of all ages. No booking needed—just turn up, get making and add your creation to the display.

What's the inspiration behind Birds, Birds, Birds?

Birds Birds Birds! is inspired by Preston Park's historic aviary and the many birds that have been part of its story. The project takes its ideas from:

  • memories of the old aviary
  • the park's changing relationship with animals
  • the colourful bird mural by Kate Jackson
  • Stu Langley's shimmering Swallow sculpture
  • and the wider museum collection

The Pop-up Cardboard Museum believes that small, creative actions—like making a bird together—can help us think about how to care for the natural world.
