We're throwing open the doors to Preston Park Museum after a multi-million-pound transformation — and you're invited to the party!

Join us on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September for a jam-packed weekend of free activities (included with your Museum Annual or Day Pass) as we celebrate the opening of our museum and our brand new space: The Spence Building. This exciting addition features a stylish café with outdoor terrace, brand-new exhibition spaces, Open Stores, and a gift shop — all designed to make your visit even more memorable.


What's on during opening weekend:

  • Sir Foxley - The Victorian Magician
  • Face Painting
  • Victorian Toy-Inspired Crafts - Make your own zoetrope or spinner with Peg Creations
  • S&DR 26 Mile Craft Activity - Create lollipop flowers to take home
  • Trainsville - paper crafting (Saturday only)
  • Walled Garden - Pick-your-own flowers (cash only)
  • Live music throughout the weekend from - The Lipsticks, Early Doors and Eagle Ukes 
  • Corridors - A breathtaking floral installation by internationally acclaimed artist Rebecca Louise Law
  • All Aboard - A hands-on, interactive experience with a giant replica train for young explorers (must be pre-booked)
  • Gateway to the World - A powerful collection of nationally significant paintings exploring how railways revolutionised travel
  • Memory of a Journey - A heartwarming community showcase of peg dolls celebrating railway memories
  • Women of Experiment - A striking woodcut installation honouring the untold stories of women who shaped railway history, created by artist Suzie Devey

Explore the fully reopened Victorian Street, The Hall, and Walled Garden, and be among the first to experience The Spence Building. Enjoy a brand-new café with outdoor seating, a refreshed play area, and a refurbished aviary featuring a vibrant mural by artist Kate Jackson. Kids will love exploring the new Open Stores, where rarely seen museum treasures will be on display. With improved toilets, seating, and nearly 100 new car parking spaces, it's easier than ever to enjoy a full day of discovery and fun in the park.

This is a drop-in event. You do not need to book.

Entry for this event is included in the price of a museum admission pass.

We recommend purchasing your museum pass online before your visit, however you can buy it when you arrive.
