Park Ranger

Help look after the 110 acre parkland

We rely on volunteers to help create a welcoming park, which is thriving with wildlife and diversity for all to enjoy. Preston Park is committed to increasing biodiversity across the 110 acres of parkland and you can help with this by carrying out a variety of conservation and maintenance tasks in the woodland, ponds and trail areas.

Working as part of the Park and Gardens team, typical jobs will include planting and pruning, maintaining the many pathways and trails within the park, as well as hay cutting in the summer and tree planting in winter. No experience is needed – just a love for the great outdoors!

What is involved?

  • Conservation – removal of invasive species such as snowberry, tree planting, rewilding projects, creating wildflower meadows and nest box monitoring schemes
  • Site maintenance tasks – erecting fences, footpath repairs, coppicing woodlands
  • Opportunity to help with public events including school workshops about nature (optional)
  • Carry out wildlife surveys – butterflies, birds, wildflowers etc.
