Help shape our Collection

We want our collection to reflect the rich history and diverse voices of Stockton-on-Tees. To ensure we collect meaningful and relevant items for the future, we’re inviting members of the public to join our Collections for Community Research Group.

Who can take part?

We’re looking for people who:

  • Live or work in Stockton-on-Tees
  • Care about preserving our heritage and natural environment
  • Are passionate about community sustainability
  • Can attend two workshops at Preston Park Museum
  • Must be 18 years or over

No prior knowledge of museums or Preston Park is required – just a genuine interest in shaping our collection!

What’s involved?

We need 8-10 participants to join us for two workshops, each lasting approximately 1.5 hours at Preston Park Museum.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • What aspects of Stockton’s history and culture matter most to you
  • How can we improve our collection to better reflect the community
  • What should we collect now to preserve important stories for the future

As a thank you, you will receive a Love2shop voucher worth £60.

How to get involved

Interested in joining? Fill out the form below by Monday 12 May 2025.

Once we receive your expression of interest form, we’ll be in touch with details about the first workshop.

About the Decluttering Preston Park Project

Preston Park Museum shares the extraordinary stories of the people and history of Stockton-on-Tees through an eclectic collection consisting of 100,000 objects. In 2023, the Museum was awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to improve the management of its collections. The two-year rationalisation project will help reinterpret and bring new life to objects significant to the local area, whilst rehoming items which no longer fit our collecting priorities.
