Donations and requests to view the collection
We usually welcome enquiries about the museum collection and requests to come in and view items that are not on display, however we are currently pausing this work until November 2025. This is so that our small Collections Team can deliver an ambitious project to transform the museum’s collection, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and National Lottery Players. You can find out more about this exciting project here
The Collections Team are still considering donations but please be aware that criteria for donating does apply and that responses from the team will take longer than usual.
Criteria for donating an item
- Important to the heritage of Stockton-on-Tees
- We cannot accept items that we already have in our collection
- The item must be in good condition with no hazards
- We can only consider items that we have space for in our store
Some of the items that we are not looking to collect are sewing machines, large pieces of furniture, books such as sets of encyclopaedias, common domestic household items, christening gowns and sets of tools.
Donating an Object
Whilst we are transforming the collection, we will only be acquiring new objects in exceptional cases. If you feel strongly that your object is one of these, then get in touch using the online contact form, providing an image and further details and a member of staff will be in touch.
