Collection Volunteer

Help care for and learn more about the museum’s fascinating objects

Working alongside the Collections team, you will help care for the 100,000 objects in the museum’s collection. These objects range from costume, works of art, archaeological finds, industrial tools, and social history items such as radios and televisions, to larger furniture, industrial machinery, and transportation vehicles.

What is involved?

Assist the Collections team in research and documentation of objects and archive
Trained how to correctly handle objects using gloves or specialist equipment
Input research/data on to computer systems
Sorting and re-boxing artefacts
An interest in history, local heritage of Tees Valley and the museum sector would be useful
