Meet Rita
We’re grateful for our amazing team of hard-working volunteers that give up their precious time to support us and make a difference to the life of the museum and grounds. Rita volunteers in the museum’s Victorian Street and can usually be seen serving sweet treats to our visitors every Wednesday. We caught up with her to find out more.
What was your last occupation?
My last occupation was an Office Manager, but I’m also a qualified teacher.
How long have you worked as a volunteer?
I’ve volunteered here for almost 10 years.
Why did you decide to volunteer?
When I retired, I needed something to do that was for myself. I’ve made some lovely friends with other people who volunteer on a Wednesday. It anchors my week with something that I really enjoy doing.
What is your link with Preston Park?
My daughter organised a surprise party for me at Preston Park. I came back the week after my party and decided it would be a wonderful place to volunteer. I started straight away!
What impact has volunteering had on your life?
I love it – the dressing up in Victorian clothing, seeing the other volunteers, serving the public and keeping in touch with the world.
What’s your favourite thing about Preston Park?
My favourite thing is the Victorian Street where I volunteer. I enjoy it when it’s busy and I like the atmosphere it brings.
What three words would you use to describe Preston Park?
It’s a gem! It’s also a pretty amazing place with a lovely friendly atmosphere.
