Meet Carol
We’re grateful for our amazing team of hard-working volunteers that give up their precious time to support us and make a difference to the life of the museum and grounds. Local resident Carol, has volunteered with us for 10 years. She says the museum is a caring environment and loves engaging with museum visitors and helping them have a great experience. We caught up with her to find out more.
What was your last occupation?
I was a driving instructor for the last 10 years before retiring but I previously had a career in admin.
How long have you worked as a volunteer?
I started volunteering here about 10 years ago. I started in the drapers shop in the Victorian Street and even made my own Victorian costume to wear. I’ve volunteered in the sweet shop and grocers shop but I especially like helping with annual events and family activities like the Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
Why did you decide to volunteer?
I visited the museum with the WI and while I was here I spoke to a volunteer and decided to apply.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I was born in the North East and brought up in The Wirral. I’d only visited Preston Park once before I began volunteering here. It’s a magnificent place and I enjoy engaging with visitors. I love to play act and make the visitor experience both educational and fun.
What do you enjoy about volunteering?
It’s very sociable and enjoyable and a great way to meet and interact with people. It’s a very caring and friendly environment and I’ve been involved in projects where I’ve learnt new craft skills like calligraphy.
What’s your favourite thing about Preston Park?
There are so many things I love about Preston Park Museum & Grounds! And it’s such great value for money – especially for families – with the extra activities and events throughout the school holidays.
What three words would you use to describe Preston Park?
Welcoming. Enjoyable. Magnificent!
