Work is progressing on the construction of the new modern extension to the museum. The steel structure of the building has been erected using 105 tonnes of hot-rolled steelwork, with columns over 10m high. The two-storey extension is located to the west of the existing Grade II listed museum and will connect to the Victorian Street, complementing the historic building.

Plans for improved café and toilets at Preston Park have been submitted. The proposals include refurbishment of the café in the park, including a new, covered outdoor seating area, facing onto the play area. A new building, connected to the café, will house new toilets, including accessible ‘Changing Places’ facilities. Read more

In preparation for our exciting major development work at the Museum, access to the Walled Garden, Orchard and Woodland Walk will be closed from today, Tuesday 12 September. This planned closure is a few weeks earlier than usual but is required to keep everyone safe during this period of exciting change. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers will be working hard behind the scenes to keep our gardens looking beautiful and ready to re-open to visitors again in the Spring 2024. The museum and Victorian Street are still fully open as usual.
