Splash in puddles, mix a mud pie, make music, crawl like a caterpillar and create your own den. Explore our hidden woodland walk at Preston Park Museum and let your imagination run wild.
Getting out into the fresh air is a great way to spend time together, learn about nature and build confidence in children. Wellies and waterproofs highly recommended.
Our Woodland Welly Walk is a self-led walk and will be open every Wednesday and Friday, as well as on a weekend. During school holidays it will be open every day.
How to book
So that we can safely manage the number of visitors, everyone must pre-book their museum visit (including annual pass holders). Tickets are released every Friday for the week ahead. Once you have pre-booked for the museum, you can enter the Woodland Walk at any time during your visit.
When is the Woodland Welly Walk open?
Our Woodland Welly Walk is a self-led walk and will be open every Wednesday and Friday, as well as on a weekend. During school holidays, it is open every day within museum opening hours (10am – 4pm).
How much is it?
It’s free with your museum ticket. All of our tickets can be used as many times as you like throughout the year. You can see our museum admission prices here.
Where will it take place?
In the woodland area at the back of the museum. The woodland can be accessed via the museum so you will need to purchase a museum ticket to enter and pre-book your visit here.
Is it suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs?
Our Welly Walk takes place along a woodland path so expect un-even surfaces and mud. There is an incline at the entrance/exit of the walk, so may not be suitable for all pushchairs/wheelchairs. There will be space to park your buggy nearby (please be aware that any items are left at your own risk and the buggy park will not be locked/supervised).
What should we wear?
Please dress appropriately for the weather. We recommend wearing wellies, waterproofs and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. In spring/summer there may be brambles and nettles so please wear clothes which cover little legs and arms.
Are dogs allowed?
No unfortunately only assistance dogs are allowed as the event takes place within the museum grounds.
Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
