Colonel Spence was community-minded, patriotic and brave. He left behind over 3,000 objects to the people of Stockton – a collection that is now in the care of our team at Preston Park Museum. This brand-new spotlight exhibition explores Spence’s life as a soldier fighting on the frontline during the First World War, as well as his passion for collecting rare arms and armour.
For the first time, the museum will showcase recently uncovered stories of some of Spence’s most prized artefacts – a duelling pistol which once belonged to the Kings of France and the battle marked sword of Oliver Cromwell – who you come face-to-face with in the exhibition.
Everyone must pre-book their museum visit online. Tickets are released every Friday for the week ahead.
