Join the UK’s lead scythe instructor Steve Tomlin for this day-long course introducing you to scything. During the day you’ll learn practical skills including:
- How to set up the scythe
- Mowing techniques and maintenance
- The course will leave you enthused and confident to scythe efficiently and safely
- Discover the advantages of no more ear defenders, visor, strimmer fumes or noise; just the sound of the birds and the swish of your blade!
- Mowing is gentle, non-impact exercise suitable for all
All equipment is provided however you can purchase your own scythe kit at an additional cost here. Please bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements by emailing museum@stockton.gov.uk

This workshop is £100 per person. Places must be booked online, book your place for Scything with Steve Tomlin
Event information
The workshop will take at Preston Park on Sunday 21 August from 10am to 4pm. You will start by spending the morning learning about scything in the Learning building, then after lunch, you will head into the park to practice your mowing skills.
