Be part of an exciting new archaeological dig heading to Preston Park as part of S&DR200.
With the help of volunteers, you’ll uncover clues about the historic railways and the materials that helped shape its tracks.
Taking place from Wednesday 23 April to Sunday 27 April, it’s an opportunity to find out more about the railway that changed the world.
Led by Tees Archaeology, the community excavation will explore the area near the park’s entrance gates, just outside of the Scheduled Monument Listing.
What to expect:
- Community archaeological dig led by Tees Archaeology
- Sessions will take place from 10am until 3pm, with breaks throughout the day
- No previous experience is necessary
- The archaeological excavation will take place outdoors and will involve some physical exertion
- Under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

What to bring:
- Sturdy shoes must be worn
- We recommend wearing comfortable and weather appropriate clothing
- Drinks and snacks will be provided however you will need to bring your own lunch
